The National Arab American Medical Association's Work in Syria

A graduate of the Damascus University School of Medicine, Dr. Mounir Boutros went on to complete residencies in both dermatology and psychiatry at The Ohio State University. Outside of his work as a dermatologist in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Mounir Boutros remains active in his broader professional community and holds membership in the Ohio Dermatological Association and the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA).

In addition to holding numerous education events for members, NAAMA hosts several humanitarian projects through the NAAMA Foundation. These projects provide medical education, equipment, and medical supplies to institutions in several countries including Syria, where NAAMA has hosted international medical conventions and workshops on cancer and cardiology. Further, the NAAMA Foundation has donated medical journals to medical schools and has organized specialized training opportunities in the United States for Syrian physicians.

With the continued conflict in Syria, NAAMA donated two new ambulances to be used in two cities in the country with the greatest medical needs. Further, the NAAMA Auxiliary has funded medical care for thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan.
